and Updates
20th December, 2000 First off, thanks to everyone who made the RoTa show such great fun! The song title hat-trick was such a great success (both Ruth and Mrs. Angel managed to pick their favourite songs out "completely by random" - funny, that) that it may have to become a tradition. We hear it's still being talked about by random strangers on the Belle and Sebastian list, of all places! Unfortunately, Chris T-T didn't manage to perform the duet, due to a bad case of food poisoning, but we've forgiven him, and you should go see him on January 27th at RoTa anyway. The aftershow was a gloriously groovy party where too much alcohol was drunk, some embarrassing music was played (The Doors? Honestly, Jane!) and Kate mysteriously disappeared with the boys from the Chanel No. Six for *several hours*. Photos will be forthcoming as soon as someone scans them. The band are going to take some well-deserved time off for holidays (Rachel is going to California to see the BJM and Portland for some scandalous reason, Jane is taking her husband on a second honeymoon to the Canary Islands, and Kate is "going back to New York City, I do believe I've had enough!"). Don't worry! There are loads of fabulous plans for next year- including the fabulous GlitterBomb plot (don't worry, we've not forgotten!). The Lollies will start work on their debut album, and will (hopefully) tour England in support of it. There are even plans of playing a gig with the Chanel No. Six, so you might actually get to experience their legendary cuteness (and Velvet Understooges fixations) for yourselves! Hooray! Well, kiddies, the holidays are upon us, and we're all about to take off for a week of drinking and carousing and whatnot, so Merry Xmas, Dougie Yule and Happy New Year (not to mention Chanukah, Kwaanza, or whatever else you might celebrate around this time) to you all! See you next year! 1st December, 2000 Instead of updating the photos page, I've added some links to recent Lollies pictures. Also, as promised, oh, weeks ago (what can I say? I've been lazier than Dan from Channel Six lately!) I've added flyers for the upcoming RoTa Show at the Notting Hell Arse Club: Chose from Scary Version or Regular Version. As if its being totally free! isn't reason enough to go, The Lollies have decided that the December 16th gig is going to be an "All Request Show" meaning that you, the audience will be able to pick all of your favourite songs out of a hat! (actually, see above comments on laziness for the real reason, but please humour us and pretend...) We also may or may not have a special guest appearance at the show, but we're still waiting to hear whether he actually says yes or not, so we're not going to embarrass the double-barrelled baron of pop by saying he'll be there (in case he has contractual obligations in Norwich or somewhere equally frightening) until we know for certain. So stay tuned, same Lollie-time, same Lollie-channel. 24th November, 2000 An interview with Spunky Wench zine and a Welsh review of Boycrush have been added to Press. We're also Number One on the CHMA Radio charts! Yay, us! How we love Canadia! How we love Zac Taylor, musical director, and his drunken postcards! With all these people saying such nice things about us lately, we're starting to get big heads! The band are currently taking applications from lovely SHB's wishing to apply for the positions of "Ego Massager" "Minder" and "Assorted Hangers-On". E-mails to the usual place. But no, seriously. To say thank you to all our devoted fans and lovely friends, we've decided to put together a Glitterbombing programme. If you send us your snail mail address, then maybe, just maybe, and it's only a maybe, then maybe we'll send a fabulous package of glitter, prizes, and for 22 lucky winners, a bonus Live CD to your door! (Not responsible for damage to carpets, ceramic surfaces or pets!) So email your address to the_lollies@hotmail.com with the subject Glitterbomb, and you just might get lucky! 17th November, 2000 Stop press! That's it, now we actually feel famous. The Lollies' track, Boycrush Pusher, has been added as one of the musical selections for possibly the most amazing site in the world: Dancing Paul. Watch that boy shake his booty and get down to da' Lolleez posse. Respect. 16th November, 2000 Yeah, yeah, I've finally scanned and uploaded some of the press we scored on our North American tour. 13th November, 2000 Well, the Lollies are back from their jaunt around the Pacific Northwest, skinnier, poorer, 50% drunker, but having had a fabulous time. Did we mention we met Ronnie Spector (sorry, we've not stopped floating since)? In the midst of all the excitement, the tour diary is a bit sparse, but we've got photos and much discussion as to what really *did* happen has occured on the mailing list. I promise I'll upload the official story, with photos and everything, as soon as we can agree on it. The big news is that The Lollies are now radio chart stars on *both* sides of Canadia. Yes, Zac, we know CHMA was first, but we've been making charts and turning heads at CITR Vancouver as well now. Imagine our surprise when we rolled into Vancouver to find a full page colour interview with The Lollies advertised on the cover of Discorder, and the "Bang, Bang, Bang" EP listed at number 30 on the *National* Canadian college radio charts. Yes, we know you don't beleive us, but soon I'll *scan* both the interview and the charts for proof. In other exciting news, The Lollies hooked up with the dronetastic No-Fi Records crew, Chelsea and Chris. The fabulous No-Fi crew foolishly agreed- after several gallons of wine- to work with the Lollies on distribution and promotion. Already, the Lollies are delighted with the results. Thanks to everyone who made the tour such a success, including but not limited to: 26 October, 2000 It's been a busy few weeks for the Lollies, and it's only going to get busier as we prepare for our American Mini-Tour! First off, thanks to everyone who made the Bath gig and the LA2 gigs such a success. Bath was more fun than should be allowed by law, everyone had a great time, and we want to do it again as soon as the fabulous Purr boys will let us! If you were at the Bath show, but didn't get a chance to pick up one of our CDs, you can now buy it in the shops- check records for details. (We've also added a Canadian distributor, so check it out if you live in Vancouver, BC as well!) The Lollies were well impressed by the whole Mean Fiddler Live Online thing, especially their fabulous dressing room. They played three songs, did two rum-addled interviews, and even had some of their mad fans interviewed live. If you missed the performance, highlights are archived at Mean Fiddler Live Online. The band are also in negotiations to do an indie Kylie and Robbie stylee duet with Ollie from London dronepopsters, The Channel Six, simply so they can bill themselves as "Ollie and the Lollies" from now on. See you in the States! 17 October, 2000 Thanks to everyone who made it down to the last minute Bull and Gate show! But if you missed us, don't despair- you can still catch us live (and on the web) before we leave for the US. The Lollies have been invited to play a new night called Mean Fiddler Live Online at the London Astoria 2. Details in gigs. You'll be happy to know that we finally added some lyrics to the songs page. 9 October, 2000 Last minute "Secret Warm-Up Gig" at the Bull And Gate this Saturday, 14th October added to gigs. Catch us at a small venue *now* before we come back from our American tour as Propah Rawk Stars with massive egos! 4 October, 2000 Wow, things happening so fast I can barely keep up. New songs added to the setlist. And new dates added to the American tour. And some reviews of the EP! Wow, does this make us, like, a real band now? Stop press! The Lollies have reached NUMBER TWO on the CHMA charts this week! 3 October, 2000 The first news is that the American Tour has been confirmed! Flight tickets have been bought and hotels booked, so we are go! See gigs for details. Also, a RoTa showcase in London has been added for December, just so you know that we're coming back! In other good news, the Bang! Bang! Bang!, Lookout, Lookout, Lookout! ep has made the CHMA charts Truckloads of grooviness to Zac Taylor and Mike Goit. We also have a soundclip of Fran Healy from Travis's reaction to our cover of "The Scottish Song". No, really! I believe the words "f***ing brilliant" were used. Scrappy punk, yeah, that's us. Heh. I have some other reviews lying around here somewhere, but they're not nearly as exciting as Franny loving us, so they'll just have to wait. 17 August, 2000 The gig at the Bull and Gate was a tremendous success! Thanks to everyone who came down, and who bought CDs, and an extra special thanks to Mrs. Angel, who drove all the way in from Essex. Now for the good news: Rough Trade have agreed to carry our CD! If you live in London, you can pop down to Notting Hill or Covent Garden to buy your very own copy for £4.50, including VAT. Check out our Gigs page for our latest gig listings in Bath, London, and (hopefully, if everything goes well) Seattle, WA. 10 August, 2000 Hooray! The EP has finally been released. Those of you within Greater London are clearly going to celebrate the record release at the gig at the Bull and Gate on August 15th, so if you don't have one already, you can print off a flier, and save £1 at the door. 11 July, 2000 Gig news: The Falcon gig has been cancelled, but a new date at the Bull and Gate has been added to Gigs. Recording News: The new EP, now entitled "Bang, Bang, Bang, Lookout! Lookout! Lookout!" will be released and available to buy at the gig. We promise. For those of you who never got a chance to hear our brilliantly witty original demo, we've added the songs on MP3's. For more Lollies MP3's, why don't you check out www.mp3.com/thelollies? 14 June, 2000 Obviously, we have a new website, and our own domain! We're quite pleased, aren't you? The Lollies join the 21st Century and get some MP3 Soundclips on their site. So now you can hear that we really are as good as we've been telling you we are all along. New gigs added. Go see us live and discover that our legs really are as long as we've been telling you all along. The song setlist has been updated and expanded. Soon, we'll give you lyrics, too, so you will realise that we really are also as witty as we've been telling you all along. Our second EP (working title "Bad Boycrush Supermarket Nightmare" or thereabouts) is now finished! Promo copies have been blagged by our 'meeja hoar' mates, and soon it will be available to the rest of you as soon as we can con someone into giving/loaning us the money to put it out! No, *really*! It is! We're not actually as lazy as you think we've been all along! 20 April, 2000 New Article added to press. The Lollies are going to be going into the studio the first week of May, to record a 4-song EP. Exciting things are in the works, but we can't tell you about them, cause we don't want to jinx them! Look for gigs re-commencing in Late May! 24 March, 2000 Why yes, it has been a million years since this site was updated! The Lollies are finally off their holiday hiatus and back in rehearsals, working on new material, planning gigs and plotting world domination. First off, the good news: Hooray! We're number 19! The Lollies have made their chart debut on Canadian Radio Station CHMA www.mta.ca/chma/top31.html!!! Many thanks to DJ Zac Taylor and his devoted listeners. Second, there are now pictures from the Garage gig online at Rachel Angel's site: http://www.chickpages.com/girlbands/sugarpopstars/garage.html. Thrill to the sight of Jane's and Rachel's extravagent displays of leg! Be amazed at Kate's bad wig! Squeal at the lovely sign that the lovely Matt Hew's lovely fans made declaring their lovely love for him! There are also new pictures of The Lollies' Garage performance on the Infamous Rat Tail Jim's online fanzine. (Hint: click on Oct 99) Third, The Lollies are going into the studio soon to record a 4 Song EP, which will be available for sale to lucky Lollies fans this summer. Details have yet to be confirmed as to the full track listing, but it is rumoured that each Lollie is going to pick their favourite song for it. (Hopefully they will not pick the same song, though Jane and Kate appear to be coming to blows over whose choice Boycrush Pusher was.) Fourth and finally, we have some details on new Lollies material. Check the Sounds page for more information. 22 October, 1999 NME live review added to press page. We will also soon be offering a line of Lollies merchandise, featuring, well, t-shirts for now.
